Thoughts on Happiness
“Happiness is not achieved by the conscious pursuit of happiness; it is generally the by-product of other activities.” – Aldous Huxley
Everyone wants to be happy but not many people know how. That’s probably because there are just so many different points of view. I guess George Bernard Shaw was right when he said, “The golden rule is that there are no golden rules.”
“Most people would rather be certain they’re miserable than risk being happy.” – Robert Anthony
I like the approach Anthony Robbins takes. It’s about deciding on your own personal purpose of the game, having a few consistent rules about how to be happy, and rewarding yourself for following those rules. It’s also about understanding that everyone else plays by different rules and consequently not taking things too seriously. Try to find happiness in the little things because they really are everywhere if you’re prepared to look.
“Start every day off with a smile and get it over with.” – W. C. Fields
